Preparations for the swearing-in were underway, Principal Secretary, Panchayati Raj, Chanchal Tiwari said. Last week, the polling for the high-stake posts was conducted in 74 districts except Noida.

The ruling Samajwadi Party (SP) won 59 district panchayat chief posts, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won five, Bahujan Samaj Party four and Rashtriya Lok Dal and the Congress bagged one each. At three places, SP rebels won.

Tiwari also said that the first meeting of the newly-elected district panchayat chiefs would be held after the swearing-in. The tenure of the incumbent panchayat chiefs is to be ended on Wednesday.
