Bhopal: A serious allegation has been made against a Madhya Pradesh Non-Government Organization which allegedly punishes the mentally-challenged girls by sending them to boys’ hostel. The matter surfaced after a raid conducted at NGO premises at Mandi area of Sehore.

The NGO that works for the welfare of mentally retarded children has been further accused of beating and manhandling minor girls. A team of State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR) conducted raids at Bright Star Hotel Society.

The officials of the commission informed that minor girls were being sent to the boys’ hostel by NGO as ‘punishment’.

One of the girls said that senior madam used to send them to boys’ hostel where they were beaten up and assaulted brutally. During the raid, 18 out of 48 girls were missing. Apart from this, 30 other girls were kept in a small room are in ‘critical’ condition.

Gauging the significance of the matter, the SCPCR officials have ordered medical tests of all the minor girls and demanded list of absent girls from the NGO.

Defending itself, the NGO said that all the missing girls had not turned up since Diwali.

Centre for State Education, Commissioner, Rashmi Arun had conversations with the victim girls and ordered a probe into the matter.

SCPCR chairman Usha Chaturvedi conducted raid at NGO premises on Tuesday after receiving a complaint against the NGO on Monday. Meanwhile, the authorities have cancelled the licence of the NGO to run hostels.
