New Delhi: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on Tuesday sought a report from Uttar Pradesh police regarding the alleged killing of a teenager who refused to give bribe to policemen.
Taking suo motu cognisance of media reports, the NHRC asked the DGP and Senior Superintendent of Police (Mathura) to submit their reports within four weeks on allegations that an 18-year-old boy was shot dead by police when he refused to give them bribe while he was carrying some material on a tractor trolley on March 19.
"When local residents protested against such an atrocity, police fired at them resulting in injuries to seven people," an NHRC statement said quoting media reports.
The Commission observed that the contents of media report raised a serious issue of violation of human rights.
