Los Angeles: The 'Con Air' star Nicolas Cage made headlines on Sunday when he was arrested on charges of domestic violence and disturbing peace.

The 47-year-old actor was involved in a street altercation with his wife Alice Kim, when the police had to step in to settle the argument, reported a magazine.

The Oscar winning star, who was arrested in New Orleans, Louisiana was in a drunken state and refused to head home inspite of police orders.

The actor also dared the officials to arrest him, which they did.

Cage, who was later released on bail, was booked for domestic violence and disturbing peace.

He was earlier caught up in a bitter tax battle with the International Revenue Service (IRS) for failing to pay taxes on gifts he issued over the last seven years.

A case of federal tax lien was filed against the 'National Treasure' star by the IRS for the same.

Cage reportedly gave away roughly USD 1.8 million worth of gifts since 2004 and owes the government just over USD 600,000 in unpaid taxes.

In 2009, it was reported the movie star owed USD 14 million to the IRS after receiving demands for tax on his income from 2002 to 2004 and 2007.
