Dehradun (JPN/Bureau): With his one masterstroke, Uttarakhnad CM Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank has tried not only to enhance his stature in the party, but has also tried to take on the main opposition party Congress.

Looking at the assembly elections in the state, the CM has launched a foodgrain scheme as Atal Yojna and has targeted 3.5 lakh families living below poverty line (BPL). His government has promised to cover about 18 lakh APL families also.

With this one scheme the BJP has targeted to woo as many as 21 lakh families in the state, thereby showing its mammoth poll strategy for the coming elections.

Besides Nishank, the presence of two former Chief Ministers and veteran Congress leader Narayan Dutt Tiwari in the function has given sleepless nights to Congress leaders.

Although Union Minister Harish Rawat, Congress state chief Yashpal Arya and spokesperson of legislative party Kishore Upadhya have tried to corner the state government but their attempt was in vain as NDT’s participation in the BJP function has taken out air from their collective effort.

The way Nishank extended honour to his predecessor BC Khanduri in a public function, has given much relief to the BJP chief, Nitin Gadkari who was present on the occasion, as the state unit is infamous for factionalism.

The sources reveal that Nishank himself visited the places of Tiwari and Khanduri and former Chief Minister Nityanad Swami to invite them for the function. Swami could not attend the function due to health reasons.
