New Delhi: Catering to the sentiments of more than 30 lakh Bihar origin people working in Delhi, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has asked his Delhi counterpart Sheila Dikshit to declare ‘Chhath’ as public holiday.

Bihar Chief Minister, who was in Delhi to attend the National Development Council (NDC) meeting, told Sheila Dishit that “Chhath is a traditional festival for people of Bihar and lakhs of them are residing in Delhi, therefore, I request you to declare ‘Chhath’ as public holiday.”

It may be noted that Delhi Municipal Corporation (MCD) has already declared the day of ‘Chhath’ as a holiday. The Delhi government has also given instructions to maintain cleanliness on that day keeping in mind the sentiments of the people who observe fast on the auspicious day.

However, the Delhi government has so far made no official announcement of public holiday on Chhath.
