Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Friday backed reservation in promotion for SC/ST government employees and said his regime had already implemented the measure in his state.

SC/ST government employees should continue to get reservation in promotion because there has not been desirable improvement in their socio-economic conditions to warrant doing away with such quota, he told reporters at the airport in Patna.

His party, JD(U), was in favour of passage of the constitutional bill to provide the quota and hoped the proposed legislation would ensure more clarity on the issue. The state government had implemented quota in promotion for its SC/ST employees after a proper study of the Supreme Court order and making a survey.
