Patna, Jan 01 (Agencies): Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Saturday tried his hand at beating the drum before well wishers who thronged his official bungalow which was left open for the public on new year morning.

As Kumar came to the sprawling lawn, he was presented a drum and tried his hand at the instrument before passing it over to his deputy Sushil Kumar Modi and Assembly Speaker Uday Narain Choudhary, who were present on the occasion.

Modi and Choudhury took turns to fiddle with the drum sticks.

Chief Secretary Anup Mukherjee and Director General of Police Neelmani, besides several other top officials, were also present at the occasion.

Hundreds of 'Patnaites' thronged the CM's house to exchange pleasantries with 'Nitishji' on the occasion.

Kumar later wished the people "a happy and prosperous new year".

The JD (U) leader said the state would reach new heights of development and freed of "evils like corruption, crime and backwardness".
