Jammu: National Mazdoor Conference (NMC) on Thursday appealed to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for his intervention into ensuring payment of pending wages to daily workers before Diwali.

"We appeal to the Chief Minister to personally intervene into the matter to ensure that the daily wagers are provided their pending wages before the festival of Diwali in J&K," President NMC Subash Shastri told reporters in Jammu.

Shastri said a memorandum was submitted to Abdullah on Thursday in which they expressed their concern regarding non-payment of wages to daily workers for last several months.

The NMC chief urged for regularisation of services of all the daily wages who have completed seven years. In the memorandum, NMC has also demanded enhancement of medical allowance to state government employees and pensioners from Rs 300 to Rs 1000 every month in view of sharp rise in prices of medicines.
