Haridwar: The Uttar Pradesh government and Ganga Sabha have not yet arrived at a consensus over the closure of Ganga at Har-ki-Pauri in Haridwar.  As per the plans, the ghat will remain closed from October 6 till Diwali for annual cleaning.

The UP Irrigation Department has sought permission from UP government and Ganga Sabha in this regard, which is still awaited. During the closure period, the department would carry out the work of cleaning along the banks of the river.

This year, the department has also submitted a proposal of Rs 18 crore for widening the ghat.  Moreover, the Ganga Sabha is of the opinion to lay down two feet net at Har-Ki-Pauri.

“We have received the proposal from the department. But permission will only be granted if the department ensures to maintain the cleanliness of the river water, “said President, Ganga Sabha, Ashok Tripathi.
