Silchar (Assam): Even before the country could overcome the shock of brutal gang-rape of a five-year-old in Delhi and rape of a four-year-old in Madhya Pradesh, another heinous crime has now been reported from Assam’s Silchar district.

According to media reports coming from Assam, a nine-year-old was abducted and gang-raped by two unidentified men. There were reports that the men tried to slit her throat after the crime.

The nine-year-old from Karimganj had gone to visit her grandfather in Pechachora village under Kallain police station of Katigora sub-division when she was kidnapped by two unidentified persons, with their faces covered, on Sunday evening, they said.

The girl was taken to a house in Section 9 of Kallain Tea estate and gang-raped before being abandoned in the tea garden outside the house.

Tea garden labourers returning from work found the girl crying and rushed her to a hospital in a critical condition from where she was later shifted to Silchar Medical College Hospital.

Injury marks have been found on her neck and the police suspect that the rapists had attempted to kill her after raping her.

Angered over the incident, agitated villagers demonstrated outside a local police station demanding immediate arrest of the perpetrators.

The incident comes just a few days after the nation was shaken by the horrific rape of a five-year-old in East Delhi, who underwent a reconstruction surgery.

The five-year-old girl was brutally raped for two days and kept without food and water in a room in which the accused, her neighbor.
