Indore: Hailing his party's Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan's move to provide interest free loans to peasants, BJP Kisan Morcha President Bansilal Gurjar on Friday claimed there have been no farmer suicides in the state so far. (Agencies)
"There is no authentic figure or analysis on such a sensitive issue of suicide especially in Madhya Pradesh," Gurjar told a press conference at the party office here.
"Agar kahi koi kisan atmhatya kar bhi raha hai to uspar rajniti nahin honi chahiye.....maut sabi ki aati hai...karje ke karan koi aatm hatya nahin karta...Madhya Pradesh to kisano ka sanrakshan kar rahi hai (Even if a farmer is committing suicide anywehre...it should not be a politicised...death comes to every one...I do not think due to debts or loans a farmer is committing suicide in the state...MP government is protecting farmers," Gurjar said to a query on the issue.
For the first time in the country, the Shivraj government has announced interest free short-term loans to farmers to the tune of Rs 10,000 cr in which 70 per cent loan amount would be paid through cooperative banks and 30 per cent through nationalised banks, he said.
A burden of Rs 400 cr per annum due to interest waiver would be met by the state government and paid to the nationalised banks to meet their share while distributing loans, he added.
Terming the Central government as anti-farmer, Gurjar said the fertilisers' rate were increased from Rs 485 to Rs 1273 per bag about three times, and "dhaan" (rice) minimum support price was less than the cost of investment which is just Rs 1250 per quintal against the cost of Rs 1350 per quintal.
Centre had failed to provide risk management plan to farmers, by not giving a constitutional status to the Agriculture Cost Price Commission, and not setting up Agriculture Cost Monitoring Commission, he alleged.
On July 15, the BJP will hold "maha kisan panchayat" in Bhopal to felicitate the Chief Minister for effecting interest free loans to farmers from April one, he said, adding about 2.5 lakh farmers would attend the conclave.
