New Delhi: Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit put the plan to hike water tariff on hold to calm angry Delhities. Dikshit, who is also the chairperson of Delhi Jal Board, instructed the DJB not to effect any hike in water tariff in the national capital.

As per a Board decision dated November 30, 2009, every year on 1st January water tariff will be increased by 10 percent.

The Chief Minister also stressed upon the need for immediate resolution of consumer grievances and other issues related to revenue management system. Dikshit also instructed DJB officials to make its revenue management system smooth and quickly settle issues related to water billing.

The DJB has already waived off penalty slapped on domestic water bills up to December 31, 2012 as per instructions of the Chief Minister. She also facilitated the consumers to submit their bills in two installments.

It is to be mentioned, that every year not only water tariff increases but also consumers have to pay 60 percent sewer maintenance charge and service charge. Service charge was in the range of Rs 50 to Rs 200 per connection.
