Patna: A court in Bihar's Patna district on Thursday issued a Non-Bailable Warrant (NBW) against the JD (U) MLA Anant Singh and others in connection with a case lodged against them for assaulting a journalist six years ago.
The Judicial Magistrate Ghanshyam Singh passed the order issuing an arrest warrant against Singh and his associates for assaulting an electronic news channel journalist Prakash Singh on November 1, 2007.
The JD (U) MLA, who represents Mokama assembly seat in the state assembly, had along with his associates assaulted the journalist after he had visited the former's residence under Sachivalaya police station area to elicit comments in the murder case of a woman.
The journalist had lodged a case against the JD(U) strongman and his associates in which all accused persons had surrendered before a court on December 12, 2007 which had sent them to jail but all of them subsequently were released on bail.
While quashing the bail of the JD (U) MLA and his associates, the judge issued an arrest warrant against them.
Besides Singh, his associates Bipin Singh, Amit Kumar, Shiv Shankar and Sanjay Kumar are other accused persons in the case related to assault on the journalist against whom arrest warrants have been issued.
However, the court has not quashed the bail bond of another accused Mukesh Singh.
