Haridwar: A compact show by Northern Railway players helped their team to register a scintillating 4-0 victory over Shahbad Markandey in the quarterfinal clash of the All India Shraddhanand Hockey tournament here on Monday.

With this astounding win, Northern Railway stormed into the semifinals of the hockey tournament.

In the semifinal clash at the Gurukul Kangri University, Northern Railway’s Prem Kumar gave a major success to his team, striking an early goal in the second minute of the play.

After that double strike by Major Singh of the Railway in 25th and 27th minute pummeled the opposition team. Without giving a chance to breath, R Bharti joined the party and smashed fourth goal for his team in 29th minute.

Beleaguered Shahbad Markandey failed to even score a single goal.

In other match of the tournament, DHA Bareilly thrashed Rampur Hostel by 3-1. For Bareilly, Rehan shot the first goal in the 2nd minute of the play. Moh Singh struck 2nd goal in the 20th minute.

In reply to the two goals, Rampur Hostel answered DHA Bareilly by hitting a goal in the second half. But in the 47th minute, Danish ruined the expectations of DHA Bareilly by hitting third goal for his team and put the score as 3-1.

The organizer, Dr Kartar Singh, later informed that Rajkumar, Kumer Singh and Sardar Joga Singh played the role of referee in the tournament.
