Agartala: Three persons died in storms in Tripura taking the toll to 15 since April in the nor'westers as the MeT office issued a fresh alert of a cyclonic storm in the next two days.

Three persons, including a woman, died in lightning strikes at Lankamura, a village near Indo-Bangla international border at Ampi in Khowai district, and in North Tripura district on Tuesday, officials said here on Wednesday.

The storms damaged about 5,000 houses and uprooted several electric posts and trees, they said.

The BSF and civil defence workers have distributed relief to affected people and were trying to restore the telecommunication lines.

Meanwhile, MeT officials forecast another nor'wester hitting the state by Saturday.
