Los Angeles: Contrary to reports, British comedian Ricky Gervais is not being considered to host the upcoming Academy Awards.

The 50-year-old, who became the first in 14 years to host the Golden Globes twice, has been boasting of being a part of the Oscars.

But ABC has put the rumours to rest by saying that they never approached the creator of 'The Office' for the job of a host, reports say.

Gervais, who made the claims while appearing at an international TV festival on Friday said, "They said to my agent, Would he like to be on our list?'"

He later added that he would not accept the offer.

"I couldn't do the Oscars. It's a thankless task for a comedian. They don't want to hear jokes, they want to hear if they have won the most important award of their career," he said.

Gervais also claimed that he has been offered to host Golden Globe Awards for the third time.

NBC has not responded to Gervais' claim about the Golden Globe hosting gig.
