Pune: Noted Marathi thinker and political scientist Prof Ram Bapat died of old age related ailments at Pune on Monday.
   
He was 81.
   
Bapat, a former Head of Department of politics at Pune University, was known for his close and sustained association with progressive movements in Maharashtra over several decades.
   
He actively extended an ideological support to many reformists initiatives in social, political, cultural and economic spheres in the state, becoming in the process a father figure for those who waged a fight for social justice.
   
A powerful orator, Bapat had delivered many lecture series that left a lasting impact on the audience.
