New Delhi: Just few days after the commencement of the new session in Delhi University, the political environment of campus has started heating up. The freshers, trying to come to terms with the new college life, will soon be exposed to the much-hyped Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) elections, as the varsity administration issued a notification for the 2011-12 polls on Friday.

The DUSU elections will be held on September 9, 2011 for which the nomination process will begin from Monday.

The university administration has assured to bring strict regulations in place to ensure peaceful elections. Meanwhile, the political circles in the campus have intensified efforts to promote their existence.

RK Sinha, Registrar, DU informed, “Professor Usha Rao of Botany Department has been appointed as the Chief Election Commissioner; Professor CS Dubey, Geology Department as Chief Returning Officer and Professor DS Rawat as Co-returning Officer.”

In the election schedule, created on the recommendations of DU Vice Chancellor Prof Dinesh Singh, August 29 has been declared as the last date to file nominations till 3pm in the afternoon.

The scrutiny process will be carried out on the same day and the final list of candidates will be released in the evening.

The eligible candidates will be required to deposit bank draft on August 30 before 3 pm. Those who would wish to withdraw their names from the elections can do so on September 1 afternoon while the final list of candidates will be released on the same day at 5 pm.

The voting will start from 8 am to 12.30 pm in morning colleges and from 4 pm to 8 pm in evening colleges.

The nomination papers for DUSU elections will be accepted at the office of the Chief Election Commissioner and nomination papers for Central Counseling at the related college or the department.
