Ghaziabad: A special CBI court on Tuesday sent former UP minister Babu Singh Kushwaha and former BSP MLA Ram Pratap Jaiswal to 14 days judicial custody till March 20 in the multi-crore rupee NRHM scam in Uttar Pradesh.

The politicians, arrested on March 3 for their alleged involvement in the health scam, were produced before the bench of Justice AK Singh, who remanded the duo to judicial custody till March 20.

The probe agency also sought four days extension of the custody of both the politicians whose 10 days custody with the CBI was ending on Tuesday. However, the plea was turned down by the court and the custody was extended by 14 days.

Meanwhile, Saurabh Jain, another accused in the case, was remanded to judicial custody till March 19.

Kushwaha and Jaiswal are the first politicians to be arrested in the NRHM scam which relates to alleged swindling of over Rs 10,000 crore central funds allocated to the state under the mission for the period 2005-06 till date by the Union Health and Family Welfare Ministry.
