Lucknow: In spotlight for his involvement in the NRHM scam, former chief secretary of the Family Welfare Department of Uttar Pradesh Pradeep Shukla made several trips to foreign countries without the permission of the government revealed the CBI.

Besides, the probe agency has also found the source of funding of the trips and the people who were involved in helping Shukla to make the tour.

According to sources, the senior IAS officer in the past three year made several trips to Europe, America and Singapore. While Shukla’s international air tickets are worth to the tune of Rs 33 lakhs, his expense on the air tickets for domestic travel were calculated to Rs 12 lakh. The CBI has also estimated the expenses of his foreign trips to be worth Rs 50 lakh.

However, Shukla is yet to be questioned by the CBI in this regard

Meanwhile, the probe agency is preparing to interrogate the travel agent who had provided the air tickets to Shukla for his international and domestic trips. It is also probing the role of some of the officials of the UP health department and contractors who had given cash to Shukla for his various trips.

According to the rule, officials before making any foreign trip have to seek permission from the concerned department. The CBI has therefore expressed concerns as to how Shukla’s frequent trips to foreign locations went unnoticed by the government.
