Ghaziabad: Accused in multi-crore rupee National Rural Health Mission scam, former Uttar Pradesh Family Welfare Minister Babu Singh Kushwaha’s counsel withdrew the bail plea on Monday.

The CBI had on Saturday arrested former UP Family Welfare Minister Babu Singh Kushwaha and BSP MLA Ram Prasad Jaiswal for alleged swindling of over Rs 10,000 crore central funds allocated to the state under the mission. The CBI had produced Kushwaha before the court on Saturday itself, after which he was sent to police custody till March 13.

The CBI had called Kushwaha and Jaiswal at its headquarters on Saturday for interrogation. Both arrived at about 11 in the morning and were grilled for about four hours before being arrested by the agency.

So far, the CBI has arrested 10 persons and Kushwaha and Jaiswal are the first politicians to be arrested in the scam.

On the other hand, the CBI on Monday produced Abhay Kumar Vajpayee, the former UP State Industrial Development Corporation (UPSIDC) managing director and Dr S P Ram, former Uttar Pradesh director general of health and family welfare before the special CBI court. The court extended their judicial custody till March 19. They were arrested on January 6, this year.
