New Delhi: Following the directions of the Allahabad High Court, the CBI has initiated its investigation into huge bungling in the NRHM scheme. The premier agency has registered two FIRs in this connection.

According to a senior CBI official, a large number of vehicles were hired under the NRHM scheme and forged bills were made to drain out money earmarked for the health scheme. In this malpractice, not only CMO, deputy CMO but officials of the district administration are also involved, he added.

The investigating agency has also found huge mess up in purchasing of medicines under the NRHM scheme. According to the agency, crores of rupees were paid for purchasing of the medicines every year, but in reality these drugs were never ever bought. The supplier of medicines and the health officials used to make fake bills to siphon off funds for the NRHM scheme.

Remarkably, the FIRs against murders of the CMO and Deputy CMO have been lodged with the CBI’s Lucknow branch, while anti-corruption wing, Delhi headquarters, was entrusted with the responsibility to probe the NRHM scam.

A team of CBI official from New Delhi would soon go to Lucknow to investigate the matter, sources said.
