New Delhi: Expediting its probe into the Uttar Pradesh National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) scam, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday interrogated the senior IAS officer and former Principal Secretary of Health Department Pradeep Shukla.

Earlier on Wednesday, Shukla was questioned at the CBI headquarters in New Delhi for about eight hours. At present, Shukla is posted in the Board of Revenue.

According to a CBI official, “Pradeep Shukla’s name surfaced when the CBI quizzed former DG of Health and Family Welfare SP Ram and RR Bharti.”

According to sources, SP Ram and RR Bharti were working at the behest of Pradeep Shukla. “There are evidences of their statements,” a senior CBI official said, adding that Shukla might be called for questioning again, if required.

So far, the CBI has registered seven separated FIRs in the case and arrested SP Ram, general manager of state-owned Construction & Design Services (C& DS) Pawan Kumar Jain, Moradabad-based trader Saurabh Jain, former UP Small Industries Corporation Managing Director Abhay Vajpayee, MD of Shreeton India Ltd GK Batra.

The case relates to alleged irregularities in utilization of about Rs 10,000 crore of Central funds allocated under the NRHM to Uttar Pradesh.
