Ranchi: In the Rs 131 crore National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) financial misappropriation scandal, popularly known as the medicine scam, the absconding suspect Vijay Shanker Narayan Singh, Reproductive and Child Health (RCH) care officer, surrendered in a CBI court here on Monday.

Narayan Singh was sent to judicial custody by the Judge AK Gupta. The next hearing in case will take place on November 30.

After the surrender, Singh filed an application in the court seeking grant of medical facilities on grounds of being a cancer patient.  The court allowed his treatment by the doctors in the jail and directed the Jail Superintendent in this regard.

Singh is alleged to be involved in abuse of his official position and irregularities in purchases under National Rural Health Mission. He fraudulently purchased medicines, medical equipment/appliances and mobile vans. Moreover, he is accused of taking bribe of Rs 42 lakh from a medicine supplier Rajesh Fogla.

On Saturday, the court had ordered attachment of Singh’s property as he was absconding.
