Bhopal: Besides construction of major irrigation projects in the Narmada valley, the Narmada Valley Development Authority (NVDA) is all geared up to establish medium and minor irrigation projects proposed in the valley.

Setting up of Narmada Basin Projects Company Limited which will carry works regarding survey, investigation and construction of medium and minor projects here has been completed. Along with the set up process, NVDA has prepared detailed project reports of six medium projects in advance.

Out of the six project reports four are in Khandwa, one in Barwani and Dewas district each. The six new projects are expected to generate an additional irrigation area of 27,088 hectare.

The newly established company is expected to come up with the tenders regarding various construction projects in near future. In a bid to make the new projects run smoothly, O P Rawat, Vice Chairman, NVDA, is interacting with the farmers of the area.

Conveying the benefits of medium irrigation project Rawat on Tuesday visited village Kishanpura under Khategaon Tehsil, Dewas district and interacted with the farmers about the various features of the upcoming projects. The Vice Chairman informed the farmers about the 135 medium and 3000 small irrigation projects have been proposed in Narmada valley.

“Out of the135 medium projects only 19 projects have been completed so far,” Rawat told the farmers adding “1,000 projects that have been completed out of 3000 small projects.”

The construction of these projects would be in association with State Water Resources Department.
