Washington, Jan 05 (Agencies): President Barack Obama met with Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi who was in Washington to prepare for an upcoming visit by China's President Hu Jintao, the White House said.

Yang was at the White House meeting with National Security Adviser Tom Donilon about the upcoming visit and issues ranging from US-China trade to Iran, North Korea and upcoming referendum in Sudan, when Obama came in.

"The President joined the meeting and reaffirmed his commitment to building a bilateral relationship that is comprehensive in scope, positive in achievement, and cooperative in nature," the White House said in a statement on Tuesday.

"The President said he looked forward to the visit of President Hu and to the US and China working together effectively to address global challenges," the statement read.
