A proposal in this regard was approved by the Odisha Cabinet presided over by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.
The decision of the state government would benefit about five lakh employees, said Chief Secretary JK Mohapatra while briefing reporters.
The Cabinet also approved another proposal to enhance the retirement age of doctors from 60 years to 62 years. State Health and Family Welfare Minister Atanu S Nayak had made an announcement in this regard in the Odisha Assembly on June 23.
The state government had earlier raised the retirement age of doctors in three government-run medical colleges in the state to 65 years.
The Odisha government's action to raise the retirement age came a day after the neighbouring Andhra Pradesh government made a similar announcement.
The Central government had already raised the retirement age to 60 years way back in 1998.
