New Delhi: An inquiry has been ordered into the report claiming that Jail Superintendent S C Bharadwaj was extending hospitality to high profile jail inmate former CWG OC chairman Suresh Kalmadi.

Additional District Judge Brijesh Kumar Garg on June 30 found Bharadwaj and Kalmadi sipping tea while he was on inspection in Tihar Jail. Vishal and Vikas Yadav, accused in Nitish Katara case, were also found strolling around the jail premises.

Meanwhile, Bharadwaj has been transferred to Andaman. But the jail administration has claimed that Jail Superintendent was transferred on June 17 and was waiting for his relieving letter.

"Bharadwaj was not relieved from his position because of providing hospitality to Kalmadi. His transfer orders have been given to him over a month ago and he was due to go on Friday," said DIG (prisons) R N Sharma.

After the reports of Kalmadi sipping tea with jail official spread, the administration took cognizance of it and set up a probe by vigilance committee into the matter.

"The officer-in-charge of vigilance Dinesh Gandhi will carry out the inquiry and submit a report within 48 hours," Sharma told reporters.

Meanwhile, Naveen Kumar has replaced Bharadwaj in Jail Number 4.
