Lucknow: After much controversy over its previous announcement to close all shopping malls in the state by 7 pm which was aimed at saving power, the Uttar Pradesh government has once again showed its seriousness to save electricity in the state. State’s Urban Development Minister Azam Khan on Thursday announced that if the street lights are found glowing in the day-time in the state, the concerned officials of the electricity department will be penalized.

“Uttar Pradesh is already an electricity strapped state and misuse of power is quite rampant all around. This situation cannot be acceptable. If the street lights are found glowing in the day time, the concerned officials will be panalized,” said Azam Khan.

He further added that municipal commissioner will have to pay a fine of Rs 20,000 if street lights are found glowing in a city. Likewise, concerned officers of Nagar Panchayats will also be punished if such incidences of misuse of electricity will be reported. Taking a tough stand on the strike of municipal corporation, Khan said, “The protesting employees should concentrate on their duty instead of staging demonstration. Government is contemplating to declare their strike as illegal.”

State’s municipal corporations employees are staging protests with demand to regularize the jobs of ad-hoc staffs and uniformity in salary structure.
