Meerut: A deputy CMO here was allegedly beaten by a supporter of an Uttar Pradesh minister in Circuit House for taking action against a quack.

According to the deputy chief medical officer, VK Gupta, he was called by the state minister at the Circuit House on Saturday.

Gupta said, "After reaching there, a supporter of the minister entered into heated argument with me over the issue. Later, I beat up by the supporter."

"The SP leader was pressuring me to withdraw a case against a woman quack. When I denied he repeatedly slapped me," said Gupta.

Agitated over the incident a delegation of doctors met SP spokesman on Sunday and demanded stern action against the SP leader.

SP spokesman Rajendra Chaudhari on Sunday said here that a delegation of doctors had met him and submitted a memorandum
regarding the attack on the DyCMO.

"I will meet Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, who is also state president of the party and brief him about the incident," said Chaudhri.

SP district president Jaivir Singh also said that a report on the issue has been sent to state leadership.

Although, a police complaint has not been filed yet, the CMO Mathura Subodh Tiwari, confirming the incident, said," Gupta had reported the matter to District Magistrate on the same day."

"The DM has assured Gupta of stern action in the case which happened while he was on duty," the CMO said.
