Patna: In order to beef up the security cover of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, the state government has decided to provide him a Special Protection Group (SPG) like protection.

The proposed security cover named as Special Security Group (SSG) will work on the pattern of SPG, and only the CM will be entitled to avail its services.

According to sources, the SSG hardcore will be constituted by a specialised team of policemen. After going through a special selection process, Sub-Inspector to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) rank officials will be included in the SSG force. Constables will be named in the special force only after clearing a number of tests and challenges.

In addition to a separate set of terms and conditions for working in the SSG, the officials and Constables will have to go through a stringent training programme. A separate headquarters will be set up for the special group. The SSG will include two IPS officials of IG and SP rank.

Short training programmes will be frequently held for selected police officials and Constables. Simultaneously, the Constables will also have to undergo a Commando training programme.

Director General of Police (DGP) Neelmani said, “The draft has been prepared for the formation of SSG. The Home Department is working on how to give promotion to the Constables and Officers, who are going to be included in the special force.”
