Kolkata: Infosys will not be granted SEZ status. The Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said on Monday that her government is not going to grant SEZ status to Infosys. Infosys had demanded SEZ status from the state government. In an interview, Banerjee said that as a principled stand, the government cannot give SEZ status to Infosys. However, she said the IT sector will continue to receive the ongoing benefits in the state.

However, she said, “We are willing that Infosys comes to West Bengal. We are sympathetic towards Infosys, but right now we are against granting this status as well as not in favour of allowing FDI in retail sector.”

Trinamool Congress is also resistant towards forcible land acquisition and privatization of banking and insurance sector because of their principled stand on all the issues.

However, Infosys has been recently allotted 50 acres of land near Rajarhat to set up their first unit in the state.
