Governor Vajubhai Vala has summoned the Assembly to meet on Monday, in exercise of the power conferred under Article 174(1) of the Constitution, Secretary to the Karnataka Legislative Assembly said.

Government is expected to amend the Karnataka Municipal Corporation (KMC) Act to facilitate the trifurcation of Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), which has run into stiff resistance from the Opposition which suspects it as an attempt to delay civic body election.
The move comes after the Siddaramaiah-led Congress government failed to get the Governor's assent to the ordinance for trifurcating the BBMP with Vala reportedly not satisfied with the government's response on the need for bringing in the ordinance.
Karnataka High Court's division bench had on Wednesday declined to stay the single Judge bench's order to hold BBMP elections by May 30.
Both opposition BJP and JD(S) are against government's move to trifurcate BBMP and want the elections to be held as per the schedule.
The two parties have staged protests and petitioned the Governor against the government's move, which they consider to be a deliberate attempt to delay election.
