Chandigarh: The state government on Friday informed Punjab and Haryana High Court that a one-member panel has been constituted to probe the 1984 Hodh-Chillar village massacre case.

In an affidavit, the state government said that the committee would submit its report within six months.

Government was responding to a Public Interest Litigation (PIL), filed by an NGO and Shiromani Akali Dal. The PIL demanded an investigation into the massacre, which killed at least 32 Sikhs on November 3 in Rewadi district.

The PIL also alleged that the massacre was a political conspiracy because despite an FIR in the case no action has been taken so far.

The petition demanded an intervention of a retired High Court judge in the case.
