Ahmedabad: In order to give security cover to women against molestation during Navratri festival, the Gujarat police have stepped up its vigil at all garba venues across the state.

An Anti-Romeo Cell and Women Squad have been set up at the venues to discourage eve-teasers and restrain people from clicking pictures of women and passing vulgar comments. If they are caught doing so, they may be awarded one-year jail.

Besides, the police will keep an eye on those staring at women and doing motorcycle stunts to impress them.

KS Rwani Superintendent, Bharuch Police said that, “Bharuch being a tribal district, incidents like molestation of women and robbery shoot up during the Navratri festival.Considering that, police have beefed up security measures.”

Special security arrangements have been made at Navratri venues in Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Rajkot, Surat and other major cities as well.
