Kumbakonam (TN): Shipping minister G K Vasan asked opposition parties to give up disrupting the Parliament on the FDI retail issue, saying their action in not allowing the house to conduct business is against democracy.
 
"Opposition is not allowing Parliament to act, which is against democracy. They should abandon this approach as the house is the forum to discuss and solve people's problems," he told reporters after attending a private function here.
  
Stating that the union government wished to have a smooth Parliament session, he referred to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's appeal to all parties to enable the house function normally.
  
"I expect things will turn around in a short span and the session will be conducted normally," he said. On the vexed Mullaperiyar issue,he said the state congress
Committee is committed to work for ensuring that the rights of Tamil Nadu are protected.
