Lucknow: BJP has once again tried to target the state government on the reservation in promotion issue. Former BJP chief Rajnath Singh said that Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo and Chief Minister Mayawati should clear her stand on the reservation in promotions.

Singh, who was here on Saturday, said that the leaders in the government are misleading the country, while accusing Mayawati government of misinterpretation of facts.

He said that so far people committed suicides because of drought conditions but now ‘money recovery’ is another major reason responsible for people’s suicide in the state.

He alleged that officials demand a particular amount every month as the ‘recovery money’, adding that this was one the main reasons for the suicide of Chief Engineer Harminder Raj. He also blamed the government for the death of another engineer who committed suicide in March.

Even the engineer’s wife claimed that her husband was regularly pressurised but the government took no notice, he added.

Former BJP president said that corruption in state has reached at such a level that the government officials are involved in activities like giving tenders, bills, contracts and receiving commissions.

Flaying the top officials, he said instead of being committed to any particular party, the government should always work for the people.

Singh, however, ridiculed SP Shivpal Singh Yadav's claim to send Mayawati to jail if the SP is voted back to power. According to him, theses two parties are the pawns in the hands of Congress.
