Kolkata: Jacques Kallis struck his second consecutive half-century as Kolkata Knight Riders gave an all-round performance to beat Deccan Chargers by nine runs in the Indian Premier League (IPL) match at the Eden Gardens on Monday.

Kallis (53 off 45 balls) was the mainstay of Knight Riders’ innings before Manoj Tiwary and Yusuf Pathan provided the late surge to guide the home team to a challenging 163 for four after they opted to bat.

Deccan Chargers top order bent down in front of Kolkata’s Knight Riders, as they have lost all their five top batsmen at 88 runs. The orange capped Jacques Kallis took three magnificent catches in the innings.

Deccan Chargers top three batsmen gone as skipper Kumar Sangakkara also paved his way to pavilion after a solid start on a paltry 16.

Kolkata Knight Riders started off furiously as both Deccan’s openers Ishank Jaggi and Shikhar Dhawan went back to the pavilion on a futile score of 15 runs.

After doing a healthy partnership with Manoj Tiwary, skipper Gautam Gambhir got stumbled on Amit Mishra’s in swing delivery and got his bails off.

KKR’s furious Jacques Kallis departed after striking a magnificent fifty against Deccan Chargers. Kallis took 44 balls to complete his half ton with the help of seven boundaries and one dazzling six.

Deccan’s Amit Mishra got the first success for his team as he trapped Manvinder Bisla in front of wickets on 19 runs.

This match is crucial for both the teams, as they failed to impress in their first match in the IPL season 4.

Kolkata Knight Riders was defeated by Chennai Super Kings by two runs and Deccan Chargers was defeated by Rajasthan Royals in their opening matches.

After losing to Chennai, Gautam had said that his team bowled and fielded well and it only needs to improve on the catching part.

On the other hand, Deccan Chargers skipper Kumar Sangakkara said that they will put their best foot forward in the match.

His team is strong at bowling part but the batting department looks pretty weak.
