New Delhi: The Delhi Police on Saturday arrested the guard and two wardens of Arya Anathalaya near Jama Masjid for alleged sexual assault on 11 year old girl who later died at the local hospital. The guard of the orphanage Navratna (36) has been accused of sexually abusing the girl while the chief warden and the warden have been booked for threatening the girl’s family.

The chief warden Surendra Singh Chauhan and warden Ramesh Maurya, both has been arrested under Section 23 of the Juvenile Justice Act for alleged threatening and showing negligence on their part in taking action despite a complaint of sexual abuse lodged by the victim’s family members.

Earlier, the police had taken 14-year-old minor into custody who was staying in the orphanage since July last year.

It is stated that, the victim and her 9-year-old sister have been staying at Pataudi House situated in Arya Anathalaya since last one and a half year. The police informed that the mother of the victim lives in a slum near Rohini after estranged relations with her husband.

On 23 Dec 2011, victim suffered with stomach pain and vomiting. Suspecting diarrhoea, she was admitted to Lok Nayak Hospital, but she died on 24 Dec. At first glance, her death seemed natural, however post-mortem report revealed that she had been raped and sexually assaulted. After this, the Jama Masjid police station registered a case and started investigation.

Additional Commissioner of Police (Central District), Devesh Chandra Srivastava said, “the guard Navratan, who is employed at the orphanage since 1996, was also involved in the minor rape case. Then he was arrested. He was serving his duty from last 15 years.”
