New Delhi: Over 100 people in East Delhi fell ill after eating food made of contaminated buck wheat.
 
After the Delhi government’s order for enquiry, police arrested one person from Nandnagri  in this connection.
 
Suffering from food poisoning, the victims hailing from Nandnagri, Gokalpuri, Jagatpuri, Kalyanpuri,Trilokpuri and Chilla areas have been admitted to to Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital, Guru Tegh Bahadur Hospital and Dr Hedgewar Hospital.

Delhi Police spokesperson Rajan Bhagat said, “The affected people consumed food prepared from the buck wheat. The police conducted raid and detained a few people.”

According to a doctor of Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital: “Nearly 35 people have been admitted to the hospital since morning. They consumed contaminated food. Their conditions are not serious, while some of them have been discharged.”

Since the hospital was running short of beds, few patients were referred to other hospitals of the city, he added.

The victims said that they had consumed buck wheat, which is generally used by people during the Navratra.

The police arrested Nand Kishor alias Nandu from Mandoli region of Nandnagari. A case of adulterating food items and selling deadly food items has been registered against him.
