Bhopal: Over 25.75 lakh families are being benefitted every month from the government's scheme of distributing iodized salt through fair price shops in 89 tribal-dominated blocks of Madhya Pradesh.

Under the scheme, the BPL/APL and Anyodaya category card holders are being given iodized salt at a subsidised cost of Rs one per kg, official sources said on Sunday.

Aimed at providing better health facilities to the people living in tribal areas, the government has now decided to provide ISI mark refined iodized high quality salt to the beneficiaries under the scheme, they said.

Every year, the government will now spend Rs 22 crore as subsidy for providing iodized salt to the people in these areas, sources said, adding that from this year it would be provided to 28,52,719 families holding ration cards in the state.
