Kolkata: West Bengal Finance Minister Amit Mitra on Friday said that in the period between May and November, the Excise department has seized 8,71,314 litres of I.D. liquors and 45,94,870 litres of liquor-making ingredient.

He told the West Bengal Assembly that altogether 4,107 persons were arrested during this period, which was 29.34 percent more than the arrests made during the corresponding period last year.

During the week from December 16 to December 22, the government seized 48,221 litres of I.D. liquor through 1358 raids and 6,46,840 litres liquor-making ingredient, he said.

The state government also demolished 270 dens of illicit liquor, running from the time of Left Front Government's tenure, and seized 152 distillation apparatus, he told the Assembly.
