Chandigarh: Punjab farmers were paid Rs 16,028.28 crore for paddy purchased from them while paddy procurement reached to the tune of 133.35 lakh tonne during the kharif marketing season.

Stating this, an official spokesman said the state government ensured hassle free procurement of crop from farmers and payment was paid within 48 hours of lifting from the mandis.

Spokesperson further said in the Sangrur district, Rs 1,968.28 crore were deposited in the farmers' accounts till date while Rs 1,930.37 crore to farmers in Ludhiana. He added that government agencies and private millers procured 133.35 lakh tonne of paddy and out of which, government owned agencies lifted 127.18 lakh tonne while private traders bought 6.17 lakh tonne.
