New Delhi: The CBI on Thursday submitted a file before the Supreme Court which included statements of Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, the then finance secretary D Subbarao and other documents related to the 2G spectrum scam.

However, the Apex Court has asked the agency to re-submit the file after it found few pages missing from the file.

The missing pages include Subbarao’s statement in which he had mentioned the issue of fixing the price of 2G spectrum through auction whereas former Telecom Minister A Raja had already allocated 2G spectrum to the concerned companies.

The next hearing in this matter is slated for October 10.

However, the CBI is firm on backing Home Minister P Chidambaram saying that the Minister has been targeted for political reasons.

The Finance Ministry was in favour of auctioning the spectrum. A note was also prepared on January 7, 2008 in this regard.

The CBI said that it was too late as Raja had already sanctioned the licences. However, petitioner Prashant Bhushan believes that there was enough time to stop Raja from doing so.

But, the CBI said that the Finance Ministry alone did not have the power to cancel the licences. “This was not an easy decision as the entire government had to take a stand,” mentioned the CBI.

The investigative agency also opposed for SIT in this matter and said the matter was being probed in a fair manner.
