Based on an on-the-spot assessment by Army Chief General Bikram Singh, it is now clear that the attack was carried out by Pakistani Army regulars, added Antony.

The Defence Minister was making a fresh statement in the Parliament on Tuesday's incident in which five Indian army soldiers were killed on the LoC in Jammu and Kashmir by intruders from the Pakistani side.

Antony's statement on Tuesday had created a controversy as he had described the intruders as "terrorists along with persons dressed in Pakistan Army uniform" while an Army spokesman had said that "soldiers from Pak Army" were involved in the ambush. "The ambush was carried out by approximately 20 heavily-armed terrorists along with persons dressed in Pakistan army uniform," Antony had said.

Defence Spokesman, Jammu, SN Acharya had said the Indian Army patrol was ambushed by a Pakistan Border Action Team (BAT). "A patrol of Indian Army comprising one Non-Commissioned Officer and five other ranks was ambushed by a Pakistan Border Action Team (BAT) close to the Line of Control in Poonch Sector of J&K early morning," Acharya had said.
