Karachi: Pakistan has broken India's world record of planting the maximum number of saplings in a single day by planting more than 700,000 saplings in Sindh province.

The campaign for the planting of saplings in Kharochan in the coastal area was launched on Saturday with the assistance of the Asian Development Bank, Coastal Community Development and Forest Department, officials said.

Some 300 volunteers were deployed to break the Indian record by planting more than seven lakh of mangrove saplings at a place called Tarshan creek.

Earlier in August 2009, India had set the world record by planting 6,11,137 saplings, while in July 2009 Pakistan had planted 5,41,176 saplings.
