"As far as IPI (Iran-Pakistan-India pipeline) is concerned, India withdrew from the project a few years ago. So, that project unfortunately is facing some problems because of economic sanctions imposed on Iran," Pakistan's High Commissioner in India Abdul Basit said at a function at the MCC Chamber of Commerce here.

"We hope that the nuclear deal is struck between Iran and six countries.. and as soon as the sanction issue is resolved, we hope to get this project back on track," he said. India had withdrawn from the gas pipeline project in 2009, citing security and pricing issues.

In the wake of the IPI project going nowhere, India had signed an agreement for a Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan- India (TAPI) gas pipeline project last month, envisaging transportation of Turkmenistan gas through Afghanistan and Pakistan.
