Kolkata: A Pakistani national who has been serving sentence in Kolkata jail for the last 12 years has been transferred to Tihar jail and is likely to be sent back to his homeland through Wagah border on Monday.

Saiyad Ahmed Mohammad Desai was booked by the Karya police under the Official Secrets Act and Passport Act in 1999 in Kolkata.

He had completed his jail term in February this year.

However, Saiyad had alleged the Karya police to have prosecuted him twice for the single crime and had moved court in this regard.

The Calcutta High Court had ordered immediate action.

Finding irregularities in the documents produced by the Karya Police, the Calcutta High Court observed: “It seems that the charge sheet has been prepared before the crime was committed by the accused.”

Finding the entire episode fabricated, the HC ordered the state government to take immediate actions for the  release of Saiyad.
