"Pakistani troops fired at our positions on the LoC in Pallanwalla area at 10:10 pm late Friday," Defence spokesman Colonel Manish Mehta told a news agency in Jammu.

"They used small arms to target our positions. Our troops responded with similar calibre weapons. The exchange continued for about five minutes. No casualty or damage occurred on our side," the spokesman added.

The Indian Army and intelligence agencies accuse Pakistani troops of violating the bilateral ceasefire in Jammu and Kashmir to facilitate infiltration by groups of armed guerrillas into the state.

This is reportedly the second ceasefire violation by Pakistan within 24 hours. It needs to be mentioned here that the incidents of ceasefire violations have not stopped or reduced even after Prime Minister Narendra Modi took up the issue with his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif.

Few days back, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah also expressed concern over the repeated incidents of ceasefire violations and urged the Prime Minister to take up the issue with Pakistan.
